They say that it is the first couple of weeks that are the hardest. Once you get past them, you are fine. The question is how to quit smoking cigarettes for those couple of weeks so you can kick the habit. If you can’t make it past those first couple of weeks, you just may end up getting caught in a vicious cycle.
Take an honest look at why you can fail or why you are failing. It may not all be your fault. Do you have friends that are constantly tempting you with cigarettes? Do you still hang out at the same bars that had your burning through a pack a night? Does your family even know you are quitting smoking so that they can support you?
Your friends are meant to be there to help you out, not hinder your efforts. If they are still smoking, that’s fine, but they have to respect your decision to quit cigarettes. Be up front with them and tell them that you don’t want to deal with the peer pressure of the constant offering of cigarettes. In fact, if you ask them for some, they need to tell you no.
Another problem can bet that you are still hanging out at all the spots that used to make your fire up the cigarettes. Until you are strong enough to resist the temptation, you need to avoid them at all costs. Otherwise, you are going to be spinning your wheels every time you go out.
Finally, get your family behind you. Let everyone know the decision that you have made and that you are going to need their support. This may involve tolerating some tantrums from you or you listening to some harsh criticism, but in the end you will be happy that they stood their ground.
