Rx Networks adds another licensee for its GPStream technology
Vancouver, Canada – April 1, 2009; Rx Networks, Inc., today announced that ST-Ericsson has licensed Rx Networks GPStream™ technology for use with their GPS solutions. GPStream™ technology enables GPS based mobile devices to calculate and retain predicted satellite position information. This makes satellite acquisitions very fast for an optimal user experience and enables devices to operate in weaker signal environments. Overall improvements include: significantly reduced Time To First Fix (TTFF), lower power consumption and improved usability inside buildings.
“The ST-Ericsson GPS solution comes in an impressively small form factor with low power consumption,” said Guylain Roy-MacHabée, President and CEO of Rx Networks. “This provides a lot of flexibility when designing into area constrained platforms like mobile handsets.”
Using Car Navigation For Earthquake Warnings
After the recent devastating earthquake in Italy, which left the medieval city of L’Aquila, not far from Rome, in ruins, the questions rise as to what we can do to minimise the impact of earthquakes in the future.
The Italian earthquake is surrounded by a bit of controversy, as it turns out that the disaster had been predicted by a local researcher who had been monitoring the level of radon (the gas formed by radioactive decay of radium atoms in the ground) for several months prior to the quake. Despite his raising the public concern, his efforts were dismissed by the local authorities, with the now widely reported consequences. Reminds you of how Britain was hit by the hurricane in 1987, after being reassured by Michael Fish, the BBC TV weather presenter.
GPS Alternative Uses
Since the advent of GPS systems, the cost of production has decreased to the consumer so much that it’s now entirely possible to incorporate the technology into systems one would never have though of a few years ago. Examples are GPS Running Watches, and dog tracking collars, gps wrist watch to name a few.
In order to determine if some of these commercially available units are for you, it’s likely wise to understand a little of the history & workings of present GPS systems.
Zumo 660 Motorcycle GPS
With GPS systems becoming so popular Garmin and TomTom created specifically designed GPS systems for motorcycles as well. Garmin has its Zumo line which offers a couple different styles and features and TomTom has its main system called the Rider 2. Both systems offer vibration resistance, glove friendly touch screens, a rugged design to handle the outdoor elements, waterproof, and helmet connection to heat the directions. Both brands of GPS systems have pleased their customers. However, Garmin has created another Zumo motorcycle GPS unit called the Zumo 660 and they have definitely outdone themselves and TomTom with this exciting new product.
What Good Is The GPS Tracking System?
You know that you can use the best gps navigation system to get you to wherever you need to go. You can put it in your car and get turn by turn directions to any destination. However, there are also gps tracking systems that also utilize satellite technology. These don’t give you turn by turn directions but they do track whatever you want tracked. What could these be used for? GPS tracking systems can be used for a multitude of purposes. For instance, you could track a child to see where he or she goes when out with friends, you can track your car in case it’s ever stolen, a computer or anything else that has the gps transmitter attached to it.
