The Mirage Hotel And Casino

If you’re planning a trip to Las Vegas and you’re not staying at the Mirage Hotel and Casino, then you might as well just not go. Honestly, it doesn’t get more “Vegas” than the Mirage. With over three thousand rooms, an artificial volcano, and the largest free standing marquee in the world, the Mirage hotel just literally screams excitement. Featured in countless movies and television shows, today the Mirage is a staple to Vegas, just like the Empire State Building in New York or the Space Needle in Seattle. The Mirage even has a tram that people can take (for free!) that brings them to Treasure Island, which is the company’s sister hotel and casino.

The Mirage was built by Steve Wynn on the ruins of the Castaways Hotel and Casino, and from it’s opening on it was known to be one of the most impressive attractions in Las Vegas. Built with the use of junk bonds at Wall Street, the Mirage hotel was the most expensive hotel and casino created at that point in history, due to both its size and the attention to detail given by the architect and builders. Even the windows were tinted with pure gold, giving them a beautiful gloss and shine. People jeered that it would take years to pay off the many loans that were taken out to complete development, but after it opened the Mirage Hotel and Casino was doing well enough to finish paying off its seven year loan in just eighteen months.

What’s For Me?

The Mirage hotel offers all kinds of special attractions and shows for their guests and even for people who want to walk in off the street. Comedians like Jay Leno, Ray Romano, Brad Garret, Sarah Silverman, and David Spade are all performing at the Mirage right now, and tickets are on sale. If comedy isn’t your thing, then maybe you would like to watch Love, Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles tribute show. That’s right, Cirque du Soleil and The Beatles, on one stage. Only in Vegas can a show like this be shown. Or, perhaps, you want to get out on the dance floor yourself. The Mirage hotel is proud to present you with Jet, a huge club/bar/dance floor that spans across three different rooms, each with their own personal theme. Whether you like hip-hop, rock, or eighties techno, I guarantee something will impress you.

The Mirage In Pop Culture

The Mirage hotel has been portrayed in countless movies, from the good to the bad. Some of the most notable uses were Chevy Chase’s movie Vegas Vacation, in which almost the entire movie was shot inside of the hotel. In Ocean’s Eleven the Mirage was one of three casinos that George Clooney as Danny Ocean robbed. Even in the videogame Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas there was a fictional representation of Las Vegas, and the Mirage hotel’s doppelganger was shown, labeled The Visage. One can only be in awe of this hotel and casino, both as a work of art and a terrific place to visit.
