Apple iPhones Interesting History Background
Apple has always been known for developing trendy and cutting edge electronic consumer products that attract a large number of followers. Already before the release of Apple iPhone in June 2007, guesses had been made widely about the outlook, the specifications and about the general properties of the product. The great thing about the Apple iPhone was so original and innovative, that people couldn’t wait to get one because it would be like having three devices all rolled -up in one: an iPod, cell phone and internet device.
Apple iPhone Introduction
The visible or at least documented history of the Apple iPhone starts with the instruction of Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, instructing engineers to start researching touch screens, which at that time he probably still had the development of Apple tablet PCs in mind. However, in April 2003, he declared in a conference that the development of traditional PDAs or tablet PCs was not the way ahead for Apple.
Advanced technologies and the possibilities through improving upon the cell phone was to be the new focus and direction for Apple. The appearance of the new Apple iPhone was announced in January, 2007 at the MacWorld Expo with a release date for June 2007. During another conference later that same year, the Apple iPhone was announced that it would be able to connect with third parties creating Web 2.0 applications which users could use for internet access.
Availability to the Public and Still More Developments
When the Apple iPhone went public on June 29, 2007 hundreds of people began to line up in front of stores before opening hours in order to be amongst the first let in, so they could quickly grab one. Originally the Apple iPhone came in two versions, you could either get one with a flash drive with 4GB for $499 or 8GB for $599, however, the 8GB quickly began to sell in an unsurpassed amount, so much so they stopped making the 4GB version altogether.
In September Apple made a reduction in the sale price of the 8GB, for $200 less then the original asking price, and that decision upset many early buyers because they felt it was unfair to them. When the Apple iPhone was first released, it was expected to be a great deal more popular than it actually was.
For example, the sales for the first weekend were initially estimated to be somewhere between 200,000 and 700,000 products. The number of actual registered activations only came to around 145,000 during the first weekend.
One downfall was that the applications offered on the Apple iPhone, could only be activated buy getting a two year subscription with AT&T, which was a restriction many people did not appreciate. Catching the attention of the media was the story of a 300 page bill someone received from AT&T, since then changes have been made in their invoice statements.
The Apple iPhone went international during the fourth quarter of 2007 and began to sell their iPhone’s in Germany, France, Europe and the United Kingdom. The international release went well, except for in Europe because Apple decided to only allow one company to sell the iPhone and that seem to be a potential legal issue.
