Symptoms of Stress - You Can’t Stop What You Don’t Recognise

Unfortunately for most of us, stress is just a part of life. Some stress can be good for us, that little burst of adrenaline that keeps us on top of things mentally. At other times, stress can become an extreme problem that causes physical symptoms, emotional turmoil and even anxiety attacks.

At first, anxiety attacks may occur suddenly and seem like a normal part of being stressed out. If they are not recognized and dealt with, they may continue and worsen over time.

In order to recognize the indicators for an anxiety attack, you have to understand the symptoms of stress first. Each person experiences stress differently, but some of the general symptoms of stress include problems with memory, confusion, difficulty in concentrating and racing thoughts.

When an attack is occurring, some physical symptoms may be more prevalent. Difficulty breathing, heart pounding or palpitations, weakness or shaking, gastrointestinal discomfort and temperature disturbances are all possible problems that may occur.

A physical will rule out other medical conditions through a combination of reviewing your medical history and, depending on the symptoms you present, additional testing like heart rhythm and stress testing. Once it has be determined that anxiety is the main culprit contributing to symptoms a medication may be prescribed to help relieve some of the symptoms associated with anxiety attacks and lessen the occurrence of anxiety attacks. Anti-anxiety medications often require time to build up in the bloodstream. This can take as little as two weeks or as much as two months. During this time your physical will most likely encourage you to visit a counselor to discuss possible anxiety reduction techniques.

A counselor will listen to the patient’s history and determine what stressing factors could be causing their symptoms. Once the patient gets a handle on the contributing factors for their attacks, a treatment plan would then be set up, based on the patient’s situation. A counselor can help them work through the stressors and show them ways to alleviate the stress causing their symptoms.

Take time to do some research on stress management techniques. There are many websites devoted to illustrating these techniques. From deep breathing, meditation, yoga, and exercise to changes in daily routines and rituals there are a multitude of techniques that can be experimented with.

As the stress in your day to day life increases, there are many strategies for coping. Getting assistance in learning how to manage your anxiety is the first step. There are many who love the spirituality Buddhism represents, yet are not members of this religion. How can Buddhism benefit you? Another aspect of certain Buddhism practices is yoga. The exercises allow the body to stretch and also to work off calories. Do not worry if you cannot maintain or get into some of the poses. Just stretch out those stiff muscles and get a more relaxed sense of being. Sure, it is all part of some Buddhism religion sect but you do not have to be a Buddhist to get some positive responses back from your body. Many people have questions when it comes to the Buddhist religion and philosophy. It is a widely accepted practice that has millions and millions of followers. Buddhism is more than just about a Buddhist monk selling prayer beads in your local airport. It is a study of the mind and spirit within us all. If you are not familiar with the Buddhist religion, then you are not alone. Many people in the Western culture are not aware of the unique history of Buddhist studies. It is a philosophy and religion that is mainly found in Eastern cultures.

Within Buddhism there are two main schools of the traditional Buddhist teachings. These are Mahayana and Theravada. They both have enlightenment as the end goal but differ in how the path to enlightenment is traveled. Each has a set amount of chants and rituals that followers practice every day of their lives. Once you read about the basic differences you can see which path fits your beliefs best.

The Buddhist religion and philosophy is based on the teachings of Gautama Buddha. There are four main beliefs that the Mahayana and Theravada believe in. These are: the Middle Way, Dependent Origination, the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. The journey to Buddhahood is the highest attainment that anyone following the religion Buddhism can attain.

No one is asking you to fast and remain still for forty-nine days, as the Buddha did, but it does require some discipline.

One of the main tenants of this philosophy and religion is that you should not cause harm to others. The religion and spirituality Buddhism teaches is that the way to spiritual enlightenment is through letting transgressions go. Yes, there will be pain and suffering in life but each person should hold nothing against others for their wrongdoings. To hold transgressions and hatred close to the heart only stops the person from growing spiritually.

Is Buddhism right for you? Only you can be the judge on whether the Buddhist teachings will fit your particular religious or personal needs. Many people in Western civilizations are now using certain Buddhist practices in their lives as a way to rid their bodies of stress and ill thoughts. You do not have to believe fully in the culture in order to reap some of the benefits. Get involved slowly and learn the basics and perhaps you will find what you are looking for.
