For the photographer who wants to have complete command over every last detail in his or her camera, the Nikon D3x is definitely the one to choose. A detailed Nikon D3x review demonstrates better features over previous D3 digital SLR, which was widely praised for its ergonomic design and outstanding portability.  Bear in mind however that this camera is on the heavy side, the body alone weighing in at 43 ounces (1.2 kg).

The more significant change can be seen in the sheer number of megapixels, imagine a mind numbing 24.5! Sporting Nikon’s new technology, FX-format CMOS sensor, this camera has elevated its sensing area to 35.9 x 24.0mm. That translates into maximum resolution, as posted by Trey Ratcliff in his Nikon D3x review, in his renowned travel blog, stuckincustoms.com. Although he recognizes that this feature alone ups the camera price considerably and is not necessary for small pictures, this is a must for his requirements, since he needs every shot to be the best. With its high resolution, he added that the Nikon D3x makes it ideal for big screens, even in very close range.

Some other good point going for this camera is its extreme ability to take highest resolution shots at up to 5 fps, and for lower resolution of up to 7 fps, the DX format in 10.5 megapixels. This aspect makes it perfect for sports and nature photographers, when recording each moment makes the difference between a magnificent shot and a mediocre one. Given, it may not have the fastest shutter in the market, but the camera specs offer high ISO, starting at ISO 100 up to ISO 1600. If that is still not sufficient, there are selections to increase or decrease the sensitivity range. There are more options to adjust two stops higher or one stop lower, that extends the possibilities of the shots taken, progressing to a high of up to ISO 6400 or a low to ISO 50 again making this an outstanding choice for photographers who want to manipulate and predict exactly how each shot will turn out.

Some other advantages are the room for two CF cards and the ability of the battery to operate up to 4,400 images per charge. The monitor provides vivid viewing with a vibrant three inch super density 920,000 LCD screen. Does Nikon D3x camera have any negatives? Trey Ratcliff, mentioned in his post, complains of the step progression that is programmed to be one step at a time, whereas he would like to be able to fine tune steps by twos. However, those minor inconveniences aside, he declares that this camera is his favorite and exlusively uses it, since he needs extreme reliability, not being able to backtrack or return to far-flung locations. Surely it shows in his pictures the absolute capabilities of this camera.

For many, the price could be considered its biggest drawback. With price starting from roughly 8 thousand dollars, exclusive of its zooms and accessories, the reviewed Nikon D3x camera is definitely for professionals or those who only want the best. And at most times, the best is the only choice for those at the top.
