Suggestions For Choosing Quality Single Or 2 Stage Snow Blowers
June 24th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedJust about everyone likes the first snow fall of the season.
The first snow of the season is usually very welcome. Most of us quickly tire of shoveling as the winter wears on. The work required to clear our sidewalks and driveway is much reduced if you are a snow blower to do the job. There will be a few things to consider when determining which model is best for you.
Single stage and two stage are the two main types of snow blowers. Single stage models are usually lighter and need less regular maintenance. They work by using a metal and rubber auger which spins to scoop snow and throw it out of the way. The biggest reason not to use a single stage snow blower is that is uses a two stroke engine which creates more pollution. Two stage snow blowers are more powerful. They are not recommended for areas which regularly get storms which drop more than six inches of snow or wet heavy snow.
Two stage snow blowers are usually more costly and heavier than a model with a single stage engine. Two stage snow blowers use a spinning metal auger that picks up the snow, sucks it through an impeller and then blows it out a discharge chute. They are great for deeper snow as well as heavy snow. They use a four cycle engine which is cleaner burning than the two cycle engine seen in single stage snowblower models. When you have determined which type of snow blower will work for your needs you will then need to determine how wide a clearing path you want. Snow blowers which can clear a wider area will take up more room in your garage.
