Air compressor tools are gaining in popularity, while electric tools are losing. With the popularity of the air compressor has come a reduction in price that makes them more affordable for both businesses and homeowners. Electric tools, which have a motor built in, weigh much more than compressor tools. Air tools can make more revolutions per minute and are capable of much more torque. Tasks done with air tools are completed faster and more efficiently than those done with electric tools.
When properly maintained, compressor tools are long-lasting, and somewhat indestructible. They have very few moving parts, so maintenance is usually limited to oiling, and they do not tend to overheat. Most of the tools attach to the air line with an accessory called a quick coupler, making changes very simple and very fast. There are many different sizes, ranging from mini air compressors, to truck air compressors, to industrial sized air compressors. There are also different types of air compressors, including the electric air compressor, the gas air compressor, and the rotary screw air compressor.
One of the most popular air compressor tools is the inflation kit. The kit allows for inflation of tires, air mattresses, balls and a variety of other objects. The blow gun can pump air in a steady high pressure stream and is also great for cleaning grease, dust and dirt from areas that otherwise would be hard to clean. Air nailers are capable of releasing large quantities of nails in a short period of time, a much better alternative to the hammer. An air stapler serves the same purpose. The air sander is used most often in automotive body shops. Spray guns make the application of paint much more efficient and are good for both automotive and household painting.
Sandblasters are used for removing old paint or rust. Most sandblasters have an adapter kit for use with water and detergents for power washing. The air ratchet wrench is similar to the impact wrench and is another very popular tool. Both are used mainly in automotive and construction work, and are good for tightening bolts and adding torque. Air hammers or chisels work well in masonry applications. Air drills allow for effortless drilling into any surface. The simplicity of changing the attachments and the use of one source of power for all makes owning an air compressor and air compressor tools a good investment.
