Though we may not be very well familiar with it or that, we have not heard it before but health researches have shown that HIV and insomnia are correlated. It is but logical to think that probably the reason behind it is that you become initially depressed when you know that you are affected with a disease that up until now, there has never been found any “magic pill” that would prevent and cure this deadly disease.

Here are some proofs that would testify that HIV and insomnia are closely related and these findings have been helpful in to help the patients deal with their illness a bit easier.

What The Findings Say

It has been researched that HIV and insomnia are related because more and more patients who are suffering from HIV or AIDS are complaining to have sleeping problems as compared to those people who have other types of illnesses. Aside from HIV and insomnia being related to each other, the prevalence of anxiety and depression are rampant among those people who are suffering from HIV or full-blown AIDS because it also affects the brain greatly sometimes, causing some impairments.

Thus, having been seen and proven the correlation of HIV and insomnia among those patients who are suffering from it, it is only best that there should be ways to help them cope with their health problems especially when it comes to sleeping. And one of the very best things to do that is that health care professionals should only do whatever is needed to make them feel better and lead a healthier lifestyle.

What Health Care Professionals Could Do

One of the best ways that they could do for patients who are suffering from HIV and insomnia is that they should pay more attention to diagnosing and treating anxiety and depression in people with HIV as a way to prevent insomnia, especially that psychiatric disorders are often missed in general medical settings, as Dr. Steven Reid would put it. Also, he has found various ways in which patients who have HIV could deal with their sleeping disorder through withdrawal of caffeine and acupuncture.

These two methods have been proven to reduce the anxiety that the patients are having and also help their bodies and mind relax. When this happens, it is then only but logical and automatic that it would result to something that would make it easier for them to feel relaxed and tranquil and sleep better.
