Millions of people experience sleeplessness during the night due to many different reasons. A lack of sleep can negatively affect the body in many different ways and can result in a temporary reduction in the ability of the brain to function properly. Sleeplessness affects people of all ages, including infants and seniors, any race, and both sexes, so anyone could develop a case of sleeplessness at any time without warning.
What Are The Causes Of Sleeplessness?
One of the most common reasons that people experience sleeplessness is because of increased stress and anxiety. As the mind becomes more stressed, it has trouble relaxing enough for the person to get a full night’s sleep. The person may awaken in the middle of the night or have difficulty falling asleep because of the stress or pressure that they are under. When the person’s stress level decreases, there is a good chance that they will be able to return to their normal sleeping patterns within a matter of days.
Another cause of sleeplessness is the person being unable to completely relax when it is time to go to sleep. These people often go a mile a minute during the day and expect that everything will just turn off when it is time to go to sleep, like flicking a light switch to turn off a light. Although this pace is great for making accomplishments but moving at that pace all day can make it more difficult to relax and rest during the night. Sleeping aids and relaxation rituals can be used to reduce the effects of sleeplessness and can help the person get to sleep each night.
Drugs have the ability to cause sleeplessness, especially drugs like stimulants, amphetamines, and anti-depressants. These types of drugs change the balance of chemicals in the brain which can cause a reduced need for sleep or an inability to go to sleep when tired. In many cases, if the person stops taking the drug or the dosage is changed, the person’s sleeplessness will be cured and they will return to their regular sleeping pattern.
How Does Sleeplessness Affect You?
Sleeplessness for long periods of time has many damaging effects on the body. The condition affects the brain by slowing down its ability to react to different things and gives the person the appearance of drunkenness or chemical intoxication. Experts have found that people that have been experiencing sleeplessness are more hazardous when driving than people that are over the legal limit for drunkenness. Sleeplessness can be cured by using one of the many treatment methods that have been found to be effective for the condition and the person will generally return to normal within a few days.
