Because it is a gateway into the Costa Blanca, Alicante is an excellent touring base. With a refreshing mixture of old and modern day culture and traditions, Alicante is found within the popular holiday area of the Costa Blanca. Visitors to Alicante enjoy a sunny, warm climate, a selection of the finest beaches Spain has to offer together with the most remarkable of Moorish architecture.

Found on the Spanish coastline between the resorts of Benidorm and Elche, The city sits below its mountain-topped castle. Alicante and its surrounding landscape are peppered with churches with the most recognised of them all being that of the Iglesia de Santa Maria. This is the oldest church in the city and was constructed between the 14th and 16th centuries being at one time a mosque. St Nicholas Cathedral in the city was built in the seventeenth century in honour of the city’s patron saint and is therefore one of the most important buildings for miles around.

Alicante has generous servings of ancient buildings to please historians and sightseers and can be found all around the region with columns and statues making a feature of many a formerly boring location. Providing a sharp watch over Alicante Bay, the Castillo de Santa Barbara is known as one of the largest medieval fortresses throughout Europe. Easily accessed by car or by elevator (lift) from the Paseo Maritimo, the fortress offers unrivalled vistas of the amazing surrounding region. In addition to the wonders the Castillo offers to visitors, Alicante offers further architectural treasures including the nineteenth century bullring and the Provincial Gallery (formerly the Gavina Palace). All of the Alicante sights are easily reached using a hire car from Alicante Airport. Arranging your car rental online will normally save you money as well as ensuring that your requested vehicle is guaranteed to be available upon your arrival at the airport.

Alicante is the ideal venue to come to enjoy yourself and the main reason holidaymakers return every year. With such a varied range of hotel rooms on offer, there are plenty of Alicante Hotels to suit all pockets and tastes. The beaches here have the most golden sand and offer a variety of both accessible and secluded coves ideal for private sunbathing. Make your way to Albufereta Beach for really good range of water sports. It is a quiet spot that is generally undiscovered by the majority of holidaymakers.

The Playa del Postiguet is the perfect place for an after dinner stroll. You will be joined by local inhabitants along this attractive sea view - it’s a ideal setting for bringing the day to a close. Formerly known as the Port of Madrid, Alicante Harbour combines sailing with fishing and is the ideal place to come to find the best fish restaurants in town. The harbour provides an ideal location for activity day and night. Here is where visitors come to learn sailing, eat incredibly delicious, fresh fish and enjoy a little clubbing into the early hours.

Nobody likes a knees up as much as the inhabitants and visitors of Alicante! Here you will find an event of one type or another happening throughout the year, no matter what time of the year you want to visit. One of the more serious of Costa Blanca festivals is the Easter Procession. Dressed in black and carrying candles, an effigy of Jesus is paraded on a cross through the streets. Every November, in honour of the Patron Saint Crist del Bon Encert, every town has its own fiesta. Expect shops to be closed all day, every day as everything stops for this fantastic event of dancing, singing and firework displays. On a lighter note, one of the most well known local festivals is that of the International Puppet Festival.
