Spending Time In Cardiff, Wales and Things To See And Do

The city of Cardiff is not only the capital city of Wales, bit also it is the most popular tourist destination in Wales and Great Britain outside London, the capital city of England. Cardiff is also the largest city in Wales, however it was only only a reasonably small town until the early 1800’s. It was during the early 19th century that the small Welsh town became an important seaport involved in the transport of coal mined in Wales, plus other manufacturing industries. Cardiff remained a town until the twenty eighth of October 1905 when King Edward VII of England granted the small town city status, but, strangely, the city of Cardiff only became the capital of Wales on the twentieth of December 1955. After the declaration of Cardiff as capital it very quickly became the place of choice for many national institutions, including the University of Wales Registry Building, the National Museum of Wales and the Welsh National War Memorial. Throughout the last few decades the Cardiff organisations involved in I.T. have seen incredible growth rates as well as, although to a lesser degree other industry sectors, most noticeably in service industries. Tourism has also witnessed dramatic increases and there are now large numbers of hotels offering Cardiff bed & breakfast.

Tourist Attractions In Cardiff

Though Cardiff has only had city status for 100 years, surprisingly a castle has been at the site for roughly 2 thousand years. The present  Cardiff Castle is, most likely, the most popular tourist attraction in the city and can be located in the very heart of the city centre. People can enjoy a guided tour through the interior of the castle, and/or, enjoy a leisurely stroll around and about the amazingly picturesque gardens of the castle. At the castle there is also a fairly new Interpretation Centre which displays the various stages of development, of the castle,  across time from the time of the Romans right up to the present age.

The city of Cardiff also has a fair number of modern tourist attractions including the highly fascinating Techniquest, one of the UK’s most popular centres of Science Discovery. At the Science Discovery centre folk will be presented with more than one hundred hands on exhibits, designed to entertain and fascinate groups of all ages. The centre is home to a hi-tech Science Theatre, a planetarium, a Discovery Room and a laboratory.

There are many many more attractions to see in Cardiff, so, if you and your family are currently deciding upon taking a vacation there it is vital that you reserve your  lodgings as early as possible as, unfortunately hotels and guest houses in Cardiff tend to be amazingly busy and are often fully booked well in advance. If your group is large you may find that Cardiff apartments turns out to be a more affordable alternative by comparison with bed and breakfast accommodation.
