Get Backstage Passes on the Sly

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

There’s a variety of ways that you can get backstage passes, most of which are legal, some of which are not. If you weren’t lucky enough to win passes on the radio, with just a little prep time you might still manage to slide on in and have a chance to get up close and personal with your favorite stars.
One of the easiest ways to get in to the show for free, and have a chance at getting backstage, is by offering to be a stage hand for the venue. Depending on the size of the location, this may be as simple as giving the organizer a call or as complicated as going through a program to get certified as stage crew. Of course, this avenue doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get backstage or that you’ll even get a job that gives you a chance to see the show, but it does up your chances of making friends with the people who will invite you to the after party.
You could also attempt to get a media pass that allows backstage access by hiring yourself out as a freelance writer or photographer. This avenue takes a bit more prep time, as you will often have to prove that you are a seasoned professional with the potential to reach a large audience. You can do this by setting up a fan site online so that when you actually do speak with the promoter of the event, you have statistics regarding your readership following that you can cite.
Of course, you could also go the route of just pretending that you are supposed to be there. This could mean that you get a glimpse of the guest list and make a claim of being on it, or forging yourself a pass in hopes that no one will look too closely, or simply dressing up like a security guard and keeping your fingers crossed that no one will question you. If you’re really out of options, you could either hang around an “in-group” with access and hope to slip in with them, or simply show up before the show under the guise of a sound technician there to help set up. With a little creativity and a lot of courage, you stand a decent chance of finding a way in!

What Started As One Movie Poster Has Grown

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Most upcoming theatrical releases have at least one movie poster, while others have dozens.  Many of your favorite movies have posters that are still easy to get and others, not so much.  The thing is that some of the harder to find posters are worth a lot of money.

Like comic books and other collectable, there are people out there that collect the art work associated with films.  Every so often we all hear about someone that started to collect something and before they knew it they had a huge collection worth incredible sums of money.
