2012 is only three and a half years away and there is a 2012 movie on its way. Will the earth end? According to the Mayan prophecy it just might. The movie’s trailer asks the question, “How would the governments of a planet prepare 6 billion people for the end of the world?” Their answer, “They wouldn’t.”

While the doom and gloom philosophy of world annihilation sells a 2012 movie, there is another popular belief behind the 2012 prophecies. Many believe in more of a phoenix effect, where the death of the current world system will be reborn into something newer and better. The belief is that the Mayan, Native American and Judeo-Christian prophecies are correct about change, just not an end of the world change. It is more of an end of the world as we know it. Dramatic change is coming.

The Mayan calendar is also the most accurate calendar used to date. Since its prophecies have proven correct in the past, shouldn’t we examine what it says about the future? It did predict the arrival of the Spanish. Couldn’t it also predict the biggest change the world has seen yet?

There is so much to learn about the Mayan prophecies and there is only three and a half years before the big date. December 21, 2012, the winter equinox, ends the 26,000 year cycle of the Earth traveling through the twelve zodiac signs. The prophecy literally means a “new world age.” While some interpret this as the end of the world, many others believe it to mean a dawn of a new and better world society.

The prophecy is likened to a mother giving birth. Like childbirth, a due date is given, but as we all know the due date is not exact. Also like childbirth, the closer to the date, the more labor pains are felt. Since the Earth is so close to the due date, the Earth is feeling the pains of a new birth. This new birth may bring on calamity and disaster, but in the aftermath, it will be a world unlike we know today.
