As 2012 approaches, more and more people are learning about the 2012 prophecies. What used to be only of interest to studiers of ancient cultures is quickly becoming main stream. To get a better understanding of the ancient Mayan prophecies, let’s look at the December 21, 2012 prediction and the calendar itself.
The Long Count Calendar
For thousands of years the Izapa (a transitional culture between the Olmec and the Mayans) recorded the calendar on monuments and ceramic pieces. The Mayans adopted the calendar and its method of counting. While most of the events relate to ordinary occurrences like coronations of kings and other public events, some events related to the “World Age.” This is the age we live in now and it is about to come to an end.
October 28, 2011 vs. December 21, 2012
According to Carl Johan Calleman, a Ph.D. in Physical Biology from the University of Stockholm, believes October 28, 2011 is the actual Mayan prophecy date. Since the scientists that believe the date is October 28, 2011 and not December 21, 2012 don’t believe it is the end of the world, October 28 doesn’t get as much attention as the doomsday believers of December 21, 2012. October 28 reflects the day when the Cosmic Tree of Life reaches its highest potential. It does not mean the end of the world but rather a beginning of a new millennium. On the contrary, the date gives hope to those seeking harmony.
Mayan Calendar and the Economy
Those who believe in the 2011 date believe the economy fluctuates with the calendar. Predicting recessions is as easy as counting the nights. The recent recession is part of the 5th Night. It will get better during the 6th day. However, November, 2009 the 6th Night will occur, causing a massive recession and possibly collapsing the US dollar. Then October 28, 2011 reflects the end of the 6th Night and the beginning of a new world system.
