Sense and Sensibility: Lucid, modern-day look at Jane Austen’s novel in reference to 2 recently impoverished siblings one impulsive and flirtatious, the other persistently hindered and made to suppress her sensations of love. By no means uninteresting although remarkably dumb; if one were to take it critically, it could be considered pretty weak, as it capitalizes on genuine-life frustrations of MIA families and Vietnam vets. Cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Richard Crenna, Charles Napier, Julia Nickson, Steven Berkoff, and Martin Kove. (95 minutes, 1985)

Dragonfly: An ER doctor, mourning for his lifeless spouse, acquires a succession of signals from her-containing messages from youthful subjects who’ve had near-death experiences. What do they mean? More drawn out than it needs to be, although a captivating and abnormal tale of one guy’s metaphysical odyssey. Cast includes Kevin Costner, Kathy Bates, Joe Morton, Ron Rifkin, Linda Seek, Susanna Thompson, Jacob Vargas, Jay Thomas, and Matt Craven. (103 minutes, 2002)

The Search: Poignant drama of American cadet Clift regarding for concentration camp survivor Jandl in postwar Berlin, when the boy’s mommy despondently searches all the camps for him. Beautifully performed and directed. Cast includes Montgomery Clift, Ivan Jandl, Aline MacMahon, Jarmila Novotna, and Wendell Corey. (105 minutes, 1948)
