The College and NFL Season is Here

Fall is my favorite time of year. No not just because of the cooler temperatures and the falling leaves, but because it is now time for some football.

The college football season is awesome because after several months of virtually nothing on TV as far as sports, suddenly you are presented with plenty of games every Saturday and Sunday. Sure I can take in a baseball game in person, but watching it on television puts a man to sleep. At least the Beijing Olympics provided some sports action this summer.

I love both the college and the NFL games for different reasons. The excitement involved in the college game is like nothing else. Every weekend, thousands of screaming supporters fill up college stadiums in an effort to help the home team to victory. With the increase of network TV contracts, there are usually great games on every Thursday and Saturday night as well. While I don’t really like the BCS arrangement that is in place in the college ranks, one benefit to the setup is that every regular season game really is big. A college team could get away with one loss during the year, but if they want a shot at the BCS championship, then they can’t afford to lose twice.

The National Football League is a different beast, but just as good in my opinion. Again the passion is amazing, especially in the great NFL cities like Boston, Denver, Green Bay, and Kansas City. What makes the NFL really fun for many fans is the expansion of fantasy football. Sure some people go a little crazy, in that they use every waking moment evaluating their players and proposing ridiculous trades to the other fantasy players in the league. Just get started with the right set of guys and gals, then fantasy football makes all of the games much more interesting.

This season I had to evaluate my cable TV, as Cox cable continued to let me down me as far at their service and pricing. Luckily for me, I had multiple options, as U-verse service is now in my area, as well as satellite TV. After looking into my options, I went with Direct TV. Being the huge fan that I am, I just couldn’t pass up the DirecTV Sunday Ticket package that they offer. In addition, they offer great college football premium packages, such as the ESPN Gameplan.

My wife may not like that selection, but of course she will know where to find me, right in front of the television set this fall!
